USF Sarasota-Manatee professor and social media expert named one of the “Top 100 Twitterers in Academia” and the “Top 22 Most Popular and Influential Professors on Twitter”
SARASOTA, FL (October 12, 2009) – A professor at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee recently received a big honor—she was named as one of the Top 100 Twitterers in Academia and one of the Top 22 Most Popular and Influential Professors on Twitter.
On Friday, October 16, Dr. Delaney Kirk, professor of Management at USF Sarasota-Manatee and social media expert, will speak at the Sarasota Manatee Human Resources Association membership meeting on “Using Social Media as a Tool for Recruiting, Sales & Marketing.” The meeting will be held at the Selby Auditorium on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Onlineschools.org specializes in Top 100 lists relating to academia and listed Kirk as number 62 on the Top 100 Twitterers in Academia list, which includes twitterers from Harvard Law, Stanford, and Brown University, among many others.
“It’s an honor to be recognized among so many other well-known and respected academics,” Kirk said. “Twitter is such a great place for the exchange of ideas and an excellent tool for faculty and students.”
Kirk is USF Sarasota-Manatee’s resident expert on social media, and regularly speaks with groups around the country on the benefits of social media networking.
“It all started with a management topic about how to use social media as a business tool—to recruit employees, gather customer comments and complaints, and connect with potential supporters,” said Kirk. “I became fascinated with the subject and had to learn more.”
Kirk wants to eradicate the misperception that social networking is just for teenage girls. Recently she spoke with the Venice Area Young Professionals Group (VAYP) about social media etiquette and the benefits of networking on the internet.
“It’s a new world, and businesses and universities have to keep up with new technology to stay on top of the game,” said Kirk. “Students, alumni, staff, faculty, donors, community members…all use and benefit from networking through social media.”
